Technical Workshop: An introduction to automation for your BGP Peering

This workshop is for those who have ever wondered what it would take to automate filter generation for their BGP Sessions. In this three-hour session the participants will be guided through what it takes to create BGP filters, and then how to automate the whole process.  We will be using an example ASN with some peerings and we will follow the process together.

Some of the topics discussed:

  • Data sources: IRRs, RPKI, PeeringDB, others
  • The process of creating BGP Filters and its best practices
  • What other aspects to take care of:
    RPKI ROV
     Managing AS-Sets
     Bogons
     Graceful shutdown
  • Best practices in preparing and performing maintenance in regards to BGP Sessions
  • We will also provide an overview of readily available tools such as PeeringManager which can help the participants in getting quickly up to speed in their automation journey.
